On January 25, 2012, I had a very informative and educational experience of attending a networking function for the first time. As an individual who is embarking on a new career, it was beneficial to be exposed to professionals from different industries in a formal environment. It served to not only sharpen communication in a non-casual atmosphere, but to receive with much welcome constructive feedback. Upon review of this material as presented to me by knowledgeable staff, I was able to identify several target areas in need of adjustments. Having this opportunity has allowed me to address these issues that may not have readily presented themselves in the absence of the third party perspective, provided by not only the instructors from CWEE, but by the employment advisors as well. Furthermore the formal interaction imparted some much needed confidence in my ability to carry myself in an environment that is in such great contrast to the food service industry venues that I am accustomed to.
In the future I would hope that the employment advisors will be in greater number to offer an increased variety of opportunities as well as providing a situation non-conducive to “Idle time” or “circling”, by the career seekers in anticipation of a conversation with an engaged advisor. With that being the solitary area for improvement, I personally feel that the experience was beneficial and integral to the employment training program that I am currently undertaking and will serve future students of the program well.
