Community Shares of Colorado Awards Laurie Harvey with the Steve Graham Memorial Scholarship Award

Laurie Harvey, the Executive Director of The Center for Work Education and Employment (CWEE), is the 2011 Steve Graham Memorial Award winner. Ms. Harvey, a natural team-builder, uses her skills to position CWEE as one of metro Denver's most effective welfare-to-work organizations.

Her philosophy of staying mission focused and her intelligence about what works and what doesn't, has kept CWEE on track with a clearly articulated set of core beliefs about what best helps women to become self-supporting. Ms Harvey has been appointed to numerous task forces, boards and commissions, and continues to be sought out for leadership positions.

"What has impressed me most about Laurie's activism and leadership is her steadfast commitment to combining job training and services that help individual women achieve a better life today with advocacy for systemic policy change that addresses the root causes of poverty in order to build a better future for all women tomorrow."
-Linda Meric, Executive Director, 9 to 5 National Association of Working Women

Celebrating its 30th Anniversary in 2012, CWEE fosters personal and professional transformation for low-income single parent families through confidence building, customized skills training, and career advancement. Ms. Harvey has been a constant force raising and addressing issues related to the constraints and disparities of poverty.

In 2007, Community Shares established the annual "Steve Graham Memorial Scholarship" award.
