On January 25, 2012, I had a very informative and educational experience of attending a networking function for the first time.
CWEE has received $89,500 in grant funding in the second half of 2011 from Agrium, Denver Post Charities, Fox Family Foundation, Hyatt Hotels Foundation, KeyBank, Venoco, Wells Fargo Foundation, Women’s Foundation of Colorado, and Xcel Energy Foundation.
“CWEE changed who I am, both as a person and a parent,” says Daisy. “I encourage my kids to do well in school. I tell my six-year-old daughter, ‘You’re smart. You can do this. Today is going to be a great day.’”
We have excellent tutors in the GED room. Not only do they help with Reading, Writing, Social Studies, Science and Math, they are ambassadors to the community, raising awareness of CWEE’s programs.
Here are some numbers: Ninety-five percent of the 629 participants in the Center for Work Education and Employment programs last year were women. Over half were under 25 years old. Almost nine out of 10 were single parents. Eighty-one participants attained a GED, usually within about 3 months. One hundred seventy-one were placed in full- or part-time jobs.
CWEE invites Denver area residents and businesses to lend a helping hand to program participants on their path to a more self-supporting life, by donating business clothing and accessories for the organization's onsite 1st Impressions Boutique, magazines and used books for the literacy program, and holiday gifts for children of participants.
On August 26th CWEE honored thirteen GED graduates, as well as interns and those who earned certificates in computer programs such as Microsoft Word 2010, Excel and Power Point.
CWEE holds informational summit to discuss TANF issues with key policy makers
On June 3rd, at a Continuation Ceremony, CWEE honored GED graduates, participants receiving computer certificates, and those in internships and successful employment.
Laurie Harvey, CWEE's executive director, is the 2011 Steve Graham Memorial Award winner. Ms. Harvey, a natural team-builder, uses her skills to position CWEE as one of metro Denver's most effective welfare-to-work organizations.
